1. How does the Remote Backup Manager work?
Data from your Server(s), PC or Laptop is backed up every
day through our Online Backup Manager, encrypted, and then
sent securely by SSL to our off-site data center facilities.
2. How do I get started?
It takes less than 5 minutes to start protecting your data.
Just go to our download page, select your operating system,
download and register the ITSguard backup manager.
3. What are the startup steps for P.C.I.C. ITSguard backup
service?
Once your account is setup, you can start backing up your
data. In the beginning the system does an initial "full"
backup that can take between a few minutes to several days
depending on the size of the data being backed up and the
speed of the connection. Alternatively, a mobile device can
be sent to your location to capture the initial full backup,
send it back to us and we import the full initial backup, to
ensure the quantity of data backed up in minimal time.
4. How does the Backup Manager work on a daily
basis?
The ITSguard Backup Manager will first look for delta changes on a
nightly basis. These changes are at the block level. So for
example if you changed a sentence in a word document, then
only that one sentence is picked up by the backup manager as
the change in the file. Once it has collected all the
changes, the backup manager will then encrypt that
information, compress it and send it over the data center.
As a result, you save time and system availability.
5. Can I use the Remote Backup Service on two
different computers if I only have one account?
Our ITSguard Backup manager is designed so that each computer/server has its
own user and the account can be shared between unlimited
computers. in the event of a computer crash, it would be
easy to restore files to a specific computer/server from a common
account.
6. What security is available for your backups?
There are two major security features for the Backup
Manager. The first is an encrypted authorization feature for
every user that connects to the data backup center. This
protects your data from unauthorized access. An additional
option is to encrypt the data before transmission to the
data center. This protects your data both during
transmission over the network and while the data is stored
on the remote storage server.
7. How long will it take to transmit a file?
The time depends upon the type and the size of the data you
are backing up, the amount of available bandwidth and the
amount of change to that data. For instance with a high
speed internet connection 500KB (about 15 pages) of a word
document file takes an average time of 25 seconds.
8. Are open files handled during backups?
The Backup Manager provides the option to backup
any files that are then open. However the results of an open
file read are not guaranteed (the backup may be completed
while you are working in a file and those changes may not be
captured by the backup manager). In order to guarantee 100%
backup results and to prevent skipped open files during
backups you need to start the backup manually after you
finish work or the system will save the changes in the next
backup schedule that you set.
9. Can P.C.I.C. see my or my client’s data?
No! there is no way we'll be able to look at your data! The
P.C.I.C. Backup Manager uses a strong encryption key, there
is no way to break the key code. The system will not restore
anything to the backup client without verifying the correct
encryption key. For this reason you must keep the key in a
safe place (we recommend you save two copies of the key in
two different locations).
10. What happens if I exceed my quota?
If you exceed your quota, we will send you notification by
email and will let you know by phone that you need to
adjusted your plan to the next storage level.
11. How do the automatic backup schedules work?
You can schedule backups to run at any time of the day or
night, as frequently as you like.
12. Will a scheduled backup run if the computer is down
or I am disconnected from the internet?
The Backup Manager will not be able to connect to
your computer if the computer is down or you are
disconnected from the internet. You will receive an e-mail
message indicating that the scheduled backup failed and you
may get a call from our staff to assist you in scheduling a
replacement backup.
13. How will I know if a scheduled backup was successful
or failed?
Every time the backup manager runs you will receive and
e-mail notification indicating whether the backup was
successful or failed.
14. What do you do if I lose your encryption password?
For your protection, lost passwords cannot be recovered.
15. What do I do if I lost a file and I need to restore
it?
Open the Backup Manager, choose the restore option,
pick the file that needs to be restored and click ok.
16. What if I am not in the office and I forgot a file.
Can I access the system remotely?
Yes, you can access the Backup Manager from
anywhere in the world. You can download any of your backed
up files as long as you have the backup manager
software, the username and the password.
17. What do I do if my system crashes and I need to
restore a mass backup ?
There are two things you can do to restore your data:
1. Restore everything using network lines. You would
reinstall your operating system first and the
Backup Manager software then you would restore your data by
using the restore feature.
2. Have us restore by mobile disk. When restoring a high
volume of data you can request that we send you the backup
copied data by a mobile disk device. Then, after
reinstalling your operating system and P.C.I.C. Backup
Manger software, you can recreate the catalogs and restore
directly from the mobile disk device.
18. What is the difference between the ITSguard Business Version and
the ITSguard Enterprise Version?
The Business Version is created to work with desktop and laptop
and the EnterpriseVersion is created to work with servers or
more then one computer.
19. How many copies of my data are saved?
The Backup Manager saves three copies of your data
in three separate locations in order to make your data 100%
available in the event a restoration is needed.
20. How many computers or servers can I back up?
You can back up an unlimited amount of computers or servers.
